Did you know that you can earn money teaching English online without a degree? One of the biggest myths in the world of TEFL, is that you need a degree to teach English. This is 100% not true! In fact, there are lots of companies where you can teach English online without a degree, here are just a few of them:

1. ABC360

ABC360 are a Chinese company with physical offices in both China and the Philippines, they hire in house and online tutor to teach English to Chinese students.

Pay: Minimum of $200 per month.

Minimum hours: Minimum 8 hours for day between 6am and 12am.

Technical requirements: Any device that is Skype compatible, strong internet connection and a webcam.

Other requirements: ABC360 do not list any requirements on their website, though they do state having an English or American accent is beneficial.

2. Acadsoc

Acadsoc are a Philippines based company who hire qualified English tutors to teach English online without a degree to Chinese students online via Skype, QQ, A-classroom and class-in.

Pay: Up to  $1,20o+ per month.

Minimum hours: None specified.

Technical requirements: PC/laptop, strong internet connection (3Mbps download and 2Mpbs upload speed), HD webcam and noise-cancelling headphones.

Other requirements: To teach for Acadsoc you must have a TEFL certificate or degree in any subject and be fluent in English.

3. Amazing Talker

Amazing Talker are an online language school offering lessons in almost any language you can think of. They have their own system set up that matches students with the right tutor for them.

Pay: Amazing Talker allow you to set your own rates of pay.

4. Berlitz

Berlitz are a large American company that have multiple offices across Europe, they offer English lessons to students of all ages from all over the world.

Pay: $8-$15+ per hour.

Minimum hours: Minimum 5 hours per week.

Other requirements: to work for Berlitz you must be a native English speaker.

5. Cambly

Cambly are quite well-established in the world of online English teaching. Their app based lessons mean you can teach English online without a degree through your smartphone or tablet to students of all ages.

Technical requirements: Any device that has Google Chrome installed, webcam and microphone.

7. Fiverr

Fiverr is an online marketplace for freelance services. The company provides a platform for freelancers to offer services to customers worldwide. Once you’re signed up to Fiverr, you can list your services and students will contact you directly.

Pay: Fiverr allow you to set your own rates of pay

Minimum hours: None specified.

Technical requirements: None specified, but to be able to teach English online you will generally need a mobile/tablet or PC/laptop, a webcam and a strong internet connection.

Other requirements: As Fiverr is a marketplace for freelance services, they do not have any strict requirements.

8. Engoo

Engoo offer English lessons to students from all over the world via their own video lesson platform that students can access on their smartphone/tablet or PC/laptop. Their system allows students to search and book lessons with available tutors.

Pay: $2-$10 per hour.

Technical requirements: PC/laptop, high-speed internet connection, webcam and headset.

Other requirements: To work for Engoo you must be fluent in English.

9. Eigox

Eigox are a Japanese online English company teaching Japanese students of all ages. They offer 25-minute general conversational English lessons via Skype.

Pay: Pay starts at $1.50 per 25 minute lesson for non-native English speakers and $5.40 per 25 minute lesson for native English speakers. Eigox advise that tutors can increase their rates of pay based on their performance.

10. HelloKid

HelloKid are an online English learning platform that provides Chinese students ages 4-16 with instant access to fluent English speakers through one on one English lessons.

Pay: Up to $22 per hour.

Minimum hours: Minimum of at least 4 days or 12hrs between 6:00pm-9:00pm Beijing time per week.

Technical requirements: PC/laptop with intel core i5 or above, strong internet connection (3Mbps upload and 30Mbps download), a webcam and headset.

Other requirements: HelloKid don’t specify any other requirements on their website.

11. iTalki

italki is a global language learning community that connects students and teachers for one-to-one online language lessons in 100s of different languages across Skype, Google Hangouts, Facetime, and QQ.

Pay: iTalki allow tutors to set their own rates.

Minimum hours: None specified.

Technical requirements: PC/laptop or mobile/tablet, reliable internet connection, webcam and microphone.

Other requirements: italki currently requires language proficiency of Advanced (C2) or native level in order to create courses and teach a language.

12. KK Talkee

KK Talkee are a China-based online teaching company who offer one-to-one and group online English lessons to Chinese children aged 5-15. They have their own virtual classroom software that you’ll use to host your English lessons.

Pay: $15-$20 per lesson for one-to-one lessons and $24-$28 per lessons for group lessons.

Minimum hours: Minimum of 8 and maximum of 48 hours per week.

Other requirements: To work for KK Talkee tutors must be from USA, Canada, Australia and have a TEFL certificate.

13. Learn Light

Learn Light are an app based language company that offer online lessons in a number of different languages to students of all ages from all over the world.

Pay: $9-$11 per hour.

Minimum hours: Minimum of 10 hours per week.

Technical requirements: Mobile/tablet, internet connection and webcam.

Other requirements: To work for Learn Light tutors must have at least 2+ years online teaching experience.

14. Learn Talk

Learn Talk have 3 different levels of English tutors, ranging from Language Tutor to Professional Teacher with Language Tutor being the most basic and Professional Teacher the most advanced. When you sign up to work for Learn Talk, their QA team will evaluate you and put you into the level of English tutor that suits you. They will then continue to evaluate you on monthly basis and may promote you between brackets over time.

Pay: $4-$15 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Pay: Salary varies based on performance.

18. Open English

Open English is one of the most renowned online English language schools in Latin America, since launching in 2007 they have reached over 500,000 students.

Pay: $13-$15 per hour

Minimum hours: Minimum of 10 hour per week

Other requirements: To teach for Open English you must either hold a degree or at least 1 years’ teaching experience. Open English prefer candidates with a North American accent.

19. PalFish

PalFish are one of the most established online English teaching companies in the world. They have a large number of Chinese students that is growing daily, lessons are hosted via an app that can be downloaded on your mobile or tablet.

Pay: up to $30+ per hour plus bonuses.

Minimum hours: Minimum hours vary depending on the type of lessons you are holding. For Freetalk there are no specified minimum hours on their website and for Official Kids Course you’ll need to work at least 4 hours during peak times a week.

Technical requirements: Mobile/tablet with latest IOS or android software, strong internet connection and a webcam.

Other requirements: To work for PalFish on their Freetalk lessons there are no requirements, to work on their Official Kids Course you must be a native English speaker and hold a TEFL/TESOL qualification.

Online courses

20. Pop on

Pop on are an app based online English teaching company that advise you can earn up to $60 per hour working for them!

Pay: Up to $60 per hour.

Minimum hours: No minimum hours specified, lesson are 3 — 15 minutes long.

Technical requirements: Mobile/tablet, internet connection and a webcam.

Other requirements: To work for Pop on you must be a native or near native English speaker.

21. SkimaTalk

SkimaTalk offer English language lessons to Korean, Japanese and Chinese students aged between 13-45.

Pay: SkimaTalk allow their tutors to set their own rates of pay.

Minimum hours: Minimum of 15 hour per week

Technical requirements: Any device that is compatible with Skype, internet connection and webcam.

22. Take Lessons

Take Lessons is an American company that offers face-to-face and online lessons in 100s of different subjects including English. Online lessons are held via their own online platform.

Pay: Take Lessons allows you to set your own rates of pay and boasts salaries of over $35k per year.

Minimum hours: None specified.

Technical requirements: To hold online lessons with Take Lessons you must have a PC/laptop, internet connection and a webcam.

Other requirements: To work for Take Lessons you must be from the US.

23. Tandem

Tandem is an app based learning software that allows students to connect with tutors to practice their language skill. Students are able to book appointments, take lessons, and automatically pay for their lessons in the app.

24. TUEX

27. UpWork

UpWork, much like Fiverr, is a global freelancing network where freelancers can list their services for others. However, unlike Fiverr, you’ll also find lots of students listing their requirements for online English tutors.

Pay: UpWork allow you to set your own hours, though if you search for online teaching listings you’ll find lots of students have already advised what they would like to pay.

Minimum hours: There are no minimum hours specified on UpWork, but most students will have a minimum hours set on their listings.

Technical requirements: PC/laptop, reliable internet connection and a webcam.

Other requirements: UpWork have not specified any other requirements on their website.

28. Verbal Planet

 

Pay: Verbal Planet allow tutors to set their own rates of pay. The average rate charged for a 45 minutes lesson is $22.

Technical requirements: High quality PC/laptop (4GB RAM or higher, and at least 2 GHz processor), strong internet connection (minimum 1.2 Mbps upload and download speed), webcam and headset.

Other requirements: To work for VivaLing you must be a native speaker of English, Mandarin, Spanish, French or German, hold a language teaching certificate or at least 120 hours and have at least 2+ years teaching experience.
