Lead Academy TEFL

Lead Academy’s 120-Hour TEFL/TESOL Course – Worth It? Let’s Talk.

You’re eyeing Lead Academy’s 120-hour TEFL/TESOL course—probably because it’s cheap, online, and promises a shiny certificate. Fair enough. I took a closer look, and here’s what I found.

The Course Itself

It’s fully online and self-paced, which means no pressure, no deadlines—just you, your laptop, and whatever snack fuels your learning. The course covers lesson planning, grammar, teaching methodologies, and classroom management—all the standard TEFL topics. The content is easy to follow, mostly text-based, with some video lessons sprinkled in. No interactive elements, no real-time instructor feedback, and definitely no teaching practicum. If you’re looking for hands-on training, this ain’t it.

Accreditation & Recognition

Here’s where things get tricky. Lead Academy is CPD-certified and endorsed by the Quality Licence Scheme (QLS)—which sounds official but isn’t the same as being Ofqual-regulated or internationally recognized by big TEFL employers. If you’re aiming for reputable schools or government programs, they might not take this certification seriously. But for entry-level online teaching gigs or informal teaching roles? You’ll probably be fine.

Job Support? Not Much.

Some TEFL courses help you land a job. This one? Not really. There’s no dedicated job board, no school partnerships, and no placement assistance. They’ll give you a certificate and send you on your way. If you’re resourceful, you can still find jobs on platforms like iTalki, Cambly, or Preply, but don’t expect Lead Academy to help with that.

Student Support? Meh.

You get email support, but response times are hit or miss. There’s no live chat, no student forum, no real instructor interaction. If you’re stuck on something, you’ll mostly be figuring it out on your own.

The Price – The Big Selling Point

At £29.99 (sometimes even cheaper with discounts), this is one of the most affordable TEFL courses out there. But cheap TEFL courses often come with trade-offs—in this case, weaker accreditation, no practicum, and little support.

Who Should Take This Course?

      • You’re on a tight budget and just need a basic TEFL certificate.

      • You want to teach English online on platforms that don’t require fancy accreditation.

    • You need TEFL knowledge quickly without committing to a long, expensive course.

Who Should Look Elsewhere?

      • You want a widely recognized, accredited TEFL certification (like CELTA or an Ofqual-regulated TEFL).

      • You need hands-on teaching practice before jumping into a classroom.

    • You expect job placement help or strong student support.

Last Words

Lead Academy’s TEFL course is a budget-friendly way to learn TEFL basics and get a certificate, but it’s not the most credible option out there. It’ll work for online teaching or informal tutoring, but for serious TEFL jobs, you’ll want something more reputable.

If all you need is a quick, no-frills TEFL cert for under £30, this does the job. If you’re aiming for higher-paying roles or long-term TEFL careers, you might want to invest in something stronger.

Recently finished this course …

Recently finished this course and honestly, I feel less happy than I thought I would. The intensive applied learning part was okay, but nothing special. My main motivation was to see the world while doing something meaningful. ******* made the lessons enjoyable, which helped a bit. Still, I’m feeling pretty prepared to teach English overseas, just not super confident.

It was a good way to get the basics down without spending a lot of money. I wanted to get better at teaching English, and this fit my schedule. I feel pleased with what I learned. I am ready to apply for new positions now.

Looking back, I found the course structure helpful for my own pace. I felt pretty good finishing it. The reflective parts really clicked with me. Now I’m excited to see where this leads next. This whole thing helped me remember why I love languages in the first place. Doing the 200-hour online diploma was a solid choice.

I just wrapped up my 100-hour certificate program last week. It was a solid experience that gave me some good ideas for the classroom. I feel more motivated now to keep working on my English teaching skills.

I finished that big 300-hour certification a while back. I learn best by trying things out myself, not just reading. I wanted to see the world and do something useful. I feel pleased with how it turned out. Teaching abroad feels way more doable now.
